From what I have read here, and observed with brf files at least, it appears to
be a Kurzweil issue, not a Bookshare issue.

Hello Dr. Cross. I believe you need to contact the administration of
bookshare concerning this problem. They need to know that page numbers are
important in just about any book and they need to know what you had to go
through in order to find the right page number. They may need to talk with
places like the printing house in Louisville and National Braille Press where
braille books are routinely produced that let you know both braille and print
pages. It may be that they need to make specific recommendations to users
about how to assure accurate results from bookshare books. Is it possible to
read a daisy or BRF file in Kurtzweil, Etc.
I believe that you have the necessary presteige and background to make the
administration aware of this pressing problem. Please pardon my two cents in
this matter.

Well, we have been doing some of the same things. I also found the one
page variation, but why should one have to work so hard to get adequate
information. When I opened the book in FS Reader, the pagination was correct.
The page numbers were also there when I looked at the html copy. But when I
used the brf copy with Kurzweil no page numbers appeared and the length of the
book was about 66 pages longer. What is strange about the brf material is that
there is no cognizance of page changes. Chapters will begin on the same page
with the Contents of the book, and most chapters begin in the middle of a page.
One would think that there was a better way.

Okay, this is pretty strange.
As I said in a previous message I was using k1000v10. Others with other
software or other versions of Kurzweil may find different results.
I downloaded the daisy copy of "the rise and fall of the third Reich" and
opened it in Kurzweil.
There are random page numbers that do show in the book, page VII for
example. However, most are missing. But, Kurzweil is true to the book if you
make allowances for the extra page that bookshare adds in on page two. For
example, page 1524 in the book was reported on page 1525. So, to find out what
page you are on press shift f1 in the book and mentally add the number 1 to
whatever k1000 reports you are on.
I checked out header avoidance in the reading settings, making sure that
header avoidance was enabled. According to the manual, this should report page
headings, but it doesn't.
I swear the page numbers were there when the book was submitted to the
bookshare administration. I can only conclude that the stripper took them out,
or Kurzweil isn't reporting them.
I am going to save the book in .txt format, open it with a good old text
editor and see if page numbers and, I hope, page breaks are there. But, don't
hold your breath. I'll report it if there is any difference.

If you get the Daisy version, you can see the page numbers in the
Daisy tags using the Bookmark list commands. Otherwise, you can use a notetaker
or bookport or book courrier if you have one, or, if you need to, you can use
Internet Explorer to read the html version included with the Daisy version. Use
the Jaws placemarker commands to make bookmarks or save your place, or convert
the file back to txt with Explorer and put it back in Kurzweil.
