Dave,

Sue means a caret, c a r e t, . That's the word for
the symbol ^ And carats for diamonds are spelled
either c a r a t or k a r a t. Then, of course there's
c a r r o t.  But yes, the only karate I know is
indeed an martial art. Or were you in fact asking
tongue in cheek?
