Hi, Jill and all. That's one time I do remove the headers. If they scan as junk, the stripper won't usually remove them. I don't have the later version of Kurzweil that removes the headers automatically, and I read all my scans completely through before I submit them, so I usually catch things like garbled text. If it's too bad, I do just remove the headers altogether, but if it's not too bad, and if I can, I fix them up. I guess I just feel more comfortable giving the stripper something to munch rather than removing them and take the chance that something I wanted protected gets munched instead. Take care. I only move a number to the top of the page if it is at the bottom because a new chapter has begun on that page. If you have a scanning program such as Kurzweil, they have a header remover but the problem is that lots of times these headers are in fancy script and are not read consistently the same; this is why I remove them manually. We all agree with you that we need better direction from Bookshare and hope that eventually this will happen. If I am validating a book, I do not remove headers without the permission of the submitter. I hope this information is helpful to you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rik James" <d28rik@xxxxxxx> To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, June 23, 2006 10:05 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Headers question for scanning >I have a question for scanning books for submission. > As I understand it, there is something called a stripper, which looks to > the > top of each page for the page number, and strips out the text that is > there, > which is usually repeated text like title on one page, chapter title or > author on the other. > > Since as a listening reader to this book, the repetitive text is not > really > essential and mostly just a distraction from the narrative, I like the > Daisy > books I have downloaded from Bookshare where the page numbers are all that > I > hear.
