I went ahead and got my from the plustek website. I probably could have checked
around but they had it on sale for $229.95 plus shipping. Okay, from the
discussions before I don't have to install the software, just go to the plustek
website and download the latest drivers but heard two different dates, febuary
of 2006 and june of 2006.

I would have to echo Prattik's comments. Also being a bookedge scanner you
won't have to hold books down on the flat bed. I would say the most strain
would be when scanning a large hard cover book, balancing the book until the
two half's equal out a bit.

The scanner and Kurzweil both keep up as fast as I can flip and hit scan.
Quality all and all is very goodJ

Depending on how much you're planning to spend, you might want to consider
the Opticbook 3600 scanner from Plustek (www.plustek.com). It can be a bit
querky, but manageable. I don't recommend HP scanners at this time. some of
the cannons aren't too bad either. You can't beat the Plustek in speed.

Kurzweil does not recommend HP scanners since you cannot control the
dark-light feature. I have an HP scanner and this is what I found. I bought an
Epson scanner which didn't work so I returned it and kept my HP scanner.
However, I am thinking about getting a Canon since the HP is not great. Also,
most HP scanners are not compatible with the Kurzweil software. You might want
to call Kurzweil, technical support and ask the technician before you spend
your money for an inadequate scanner.

This is the new scanner I'm thinking on getting. Here is my question
though. With the use on my left hand and limited use of my right, iS it easy to
use the ADF which comes with it and how do you use it with kurzweil? I saw flip
side in the menus and was wondering if you put the first page in and somehow
make it do the flip side somehow. If someone can give me the step by step
instructions, thanks in advance. I have a hard cover book here that I brought
of a book that is going to be redone because there are too manny errors in the
copy on bookshare.
