Hi,
A settings file is not a text file that you can open and read, to my
knowledge. What you can do is open Kurzweil, go to the settings menu, and
open the attachment you downloaded by browsing for it in the "load settings"
dialog. You can then explore the changes that have taken place, and you may
choose to save them as your default if you like them, give them another name
to open later, or just close the program if you want to abandon them.
On to the italics problem. I don't know the ins and outs of Bookshare's
conversion process, but I do know that I have downloaded material from the
site that has bolded, italicized and other special text where appropriate,
so I suspect that your hard work will pay off and the final product will be
beautifully formatted. Kurzweil users in particular will appreciate your
extra effort, since the program allows not only searching for words, but
also searching for changes in text attributes.
Happy scanning,
Chancey
