Three might be too young, but you could give it a try and help explain parts that might not make sense. I guess it depends upon how old or young of a 3 year old to whom you are reading. The edition I borrowed from the library did not have a lot of pictures. The version I remember reading to Billy had lots of pictures, like on every page.
