Gustavo once posted a bit about himself on the list. He said he did not
capitalize his name, and did not capitalize I when speaking of himself. I
have thought a lot about that, and there is logic in it. Capitalizing one's
name and the first person pronoun implies self-importance. We do not
capitalize the word "you", even when speaking of a specific person. So his
legacy to me is not to take myself too seriously.

It's been days, and I'm still shocked. No more Gustavo? That can't be
right.
I always remember what Gustavo used to say about rejections, the cryptic,
Kafkaesque, "Your submission is not going well." He even once put up a
message with a couple pages from the relevant Kafka story. I could just
picture some poor submitter being dragged off to the gulag. I think of it
every time I see that rejection page.
