Tracy:Ran into the same problem as you last night. What I finally did was use "save as" on computer and change to a doc file. Opened beautifully on the BN. Wondering if some of the files now are somehow being made into a later RTF file for a later Word. (Purely a non-techie thought process, smiles) However, changing to a doc file opened it beautifully in my BN, and hubby says no formatting will be lost when I change it back. By the way, I have Word 2003 so I imagine Word must be about to 2009 or something by now! (smiles)
I do remember Shelley wrote an email about how she does it, but for the life of me I can't find it. Shelley, would you please explain your method of proofing with the BN again. I know you took it from an RTF to a Keyword and back, but when I tried to do it the file corrupted. One of the reasons to have a backup file! (smiles).

Thanks Regina. Very helpful. I'll make a file copy, then do some experiments. TracyWhen you enter on the book name use space with X or enter with X and you will, as you repeat the command repeatedly, see the types of different files you might need. When you see .doc just enter. By the way, hope you have abraille keyboard and not a qwerty or ignore this is the word and sorry forcluttering up your day. Hope it helps, though, and hope you can open in Word. Sometimes those BN files are a real bear! That sounds like a good guess. I don't know how to make the BN save as a .doc file, though. If anyone does, please let me know the trick. TracyHi Tracy! I don't have a BrailleNote, so I can't say specifically, but I'll take a guess based on an experience I have. I scan with OpenBook 7. Although I can save the ark file directly as an RTF, I don't, because MS Word doesn't like it. I get some kind of error that I can't remember what it is, because it's been about two years since I tried that. I must save as a doc file first while still in OpenBook. OpenBook's version of a Word document is Word version 6, 7, and 8, I think, so that's why Word 2003 doesn't like the RTF from OpenBook. Then I can open the doc file in Word by just hitting enter on it, and, whether I leave it as is and change it by saving as an RTF or first changing it to a Word 2003 doc file and then to an RTF, all is well. I wanted to experiment both ways when I first discovered the problem. Perhaps there is something with the BrailleNote file that is similar. Debby At 12:42 PM 10/5/2011, Tracy Carcione wroteI was able to retrieve my file by going to Wordpad on my PC and opening the file I'd copied from the BN, then re-saving it under a different name. Klooge! But at least I have my work. I'd still like to know why Word won't open the file directly, though.
