Welcome Melissa.

You will find this ragmuffin crew are like a bunch of elves busily scanning and validating books, while they argue about the cost of a three cent stamp.

Anyone remember those?

Welcome again. Any questions, just ask.

That is how I do it.

Mine is the same way, Cindy. But after I unpack, I see the file name,
and I
can tab past save, cancel, and then I see desktop, but if I press the
down
arrow key I can see other choices of where to put the file. Use the
down
and up arrows to choose where you want the file. Then shift+tab back to

save and it will go there. I don't mind if it wants to unpack my file
first. (smile)

Hi, When downloading a book from Bookshare, you are first given a
choice
of open or save. If you choose save you are asked for your password
and a
location to save. You must then unpack the book from there. If you
choose
open you are asked for your password and then for the folder where you
wish
to store the book. .
You are asked if you want to open the book now and I say no. you are
then
asked if you want to unpack another book and again I say no.
This is the method I prefer since I can save as mystery, non
fiction,
horror, etc.
Using this method the book is automatically unpacked and stored in the
folder you want.

Are those of you having problems using desktop computers? If so, what
operating system? What speech program do you use?

If you are using a notetaker then that might be the problem. Maybe
someone
else using the same notetaker could try it and see what results they
get.

Okay, This is really strange. I just downloaded Sophie's Choice,
both the
Daisy and the BRF. I downloaded from the page where you just see
the result
of the search. That worked fine, meaning that it didn't unpack the
book. I
then tried downloading both Daisy and BRF after choosing the link
to
"Sophie's Choice" which takes you to the page where you can see the
synopsis, and that also worked as it used to, i.e., it didn't unpack
the
book for me.

I give up; I surrender! <smile>.

Could someone tell us which book? Maybe that would make a
difference.

Hi Cindy,
I'm interested in this answer, too. I had the same thing happen
last week
when I downloaded a book for validation. I was used to looking for
the
"Zip" file and unzipping it and thought I had lost my download
when
I
couldn't find it. A search revealed that it had been magically
unzipped
for
me. Until I saw your note, I thought it might have been something
I
did
without realizing it. Has anyone else had this experience? Has
Bookshare
changed its behavior and is now unpacking/unzipping the books for
us? I'm
not complaining, just trying to understand.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I know this is a little off topic for the volunteer list, but I am
trying to download a book to read. Lately it wants to unpack right
away and I'm not getting a choice as to what to do with it. I
thought
I used to be able to download the book and then unpack it. Can
someone
tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Cindy Lou
