Hi, Sue, I'll give it a go. The first syllable "chi" is pronounced like
"sky" (long I). The second syllable is pronounced like "shear" or "mere"
as in "a mere bagatelle". The third syllable I think you can guess. Hope
this helps. There are some words which seem to have more than one way to
pronounce them which is acceptable. Take the word "mature" for example.
I've heard it pronounced as "muh-toor", "muh-choor", or as "muh-tyoor".
(In case you're curious, I'm being very creative with the phonetic
spelling so the screen reader approximates the pronunciation I want to
hear. It isn't always successful. Maybe you can make something of the
Braille.) Regards and happy reading, Kim.

Hi Ann,

Well, I'm not sure how to pronounce chimera, so come on and tell me how
to
pronounce it phonetically. (smile)

Hi all,

Yes, my screen reader does seem to know about Greek Root Words in
English. It pronounces it correctly.

As for why the word came up in discussion? It happened during the ten
years of my life when I was an ardent player of D&D. Our party was
about to face a chimera. We were discussing just what our strategy
should
be.
