[bksvol-discuss] Re: Concerns About A Book On Step 1

When I scan a book, I put the sidebar in a place that makes sense, that does
not interrupt the text. As a sighted reader, I can choose to read the sidebar
first, last, whenever I want. But most Bookshare users don't have that option
and I think it would be difficult to skip the sidebar and then go back to it
when you're ready to do it.

BTW, in my experience, it is faster to rescan pages with sidebars and process
them in a logical manner than to try to fix pages with sidebars which have
already been scanned and OCR'd.

Which does bring up the question: as sumbitters, how should we handle
sidebars, boxes on pages, etc?

I am interested in this book as well but without any instruction on how to
handle side bars, I hesitate to get involved. If the submitter is going to
be asked to resubmit the book in RTF, my hope would be that she would be
counseled on how to handle the sidebar issue as I think this is really the
submitter's responsibility. Jill
