re the posts saying reading-for-pleasure readers perhaps don't need page numbers. As a sighted reader, I like need page numbers so that in case my bookmark falls out, sort of know what page I was on. Earlier posters have said that they use symbols like asterisks or other marks, though, to indicate where they left off in a book, so I suppose perhaps page numbers aren't as important in novels -- except it students are writing papers on the novel. But what to Braille readers do if there are no page numbers and they want to continue where they left off readig a book? And people who listen? Can you "go to" a symbol to get where you were?
