Hi Ann, The reason for chapter heading protection is the unpredictable stripper. It sometimes , though not always, removes the first line after a page break. Some people put asterisks, and that does seem to work. Others put the page number. Some people put dashes. Some people also put Chapter on one line and the chapter number on the next line. Hope this helps. I'm currently working on Spinneret by Timothy Zahn, and it has chapter headings, that say, "Chapter 1, Chapter 2, ..." Do I understand I have to put three asterisks above each of these? I'm confused. When does this have to be done? When not? How do you know? Ann P. -- Ann K.
