Hi all,

Absolutely and totally true! Mayrie, if you're revamping the manual, then please, please, please include this in the section for proofers. what I do is whenever I start a book, I immediately go to "save-as, and save the book as the book's title, keeping the original file that has my name on it, e.g. "Juror_Ann_Parsons.rtf". I title the working copy "Juror.rtf". That way I know which is who, so to speak. When the book is approved, I delete the original file and keep the revised one.

This is an extremely practical way to do things because I know myself. I have had the joyous privilege of doing something in Word that completely destroyed the file I was working on, making it only fit for trashing. If I hadn't kept the original file, I'd be up a creek with no paddle. I've also had the experience of deleting something I should not have deleted. The original has always been there to save my bacon.

Therefore, I highly recommend this practice for no matter what you are doing when editing. Choose a working file, then once you're done editing, the file becomes the new good file and you can delete the original.

This is good for programmers and editors and any time you're dealing with stuff like this. Make a working copy! Make a working copy! Make a working copy! I could repeat this ten more times, but it would get boring.
