Robin:

It has been my experience that a book can be rated excellent due to the total number of words, but still have choppiness in parts or throughout. Therefore, I am always very careful to check which copy is truly better.
That's why I always feel concerned when someone just rejects a book because there's already a copy rated excellent. The books should be compared before rejecting the second copy.

K1000 is an excellent tool for quickly comparing the quality of books.

The copy in the collection is of excellent quality. I read it recently. I hate to see Jim's work go to waste, but it's also not worth wasting someone else's time to check for what will be minute differences. In fact, the copy already on the site is flawless.

I realize this sounds bossy and I don't mean it to, I'd just hate for someone to use up valuable time...though it does sound like Ernie relaly wants to read it. <smiles> Ernie, almost the whole Paretsky collection is on bookshare.org....

Hi List,
Just submitted Blacklist by Sara Paretsky.

From The Barnes & Noble Review
In the wake of 9/11, Sara Paretsky examines the devastating effect of personal fear set against an escalating climate of national paranoia and despair. Blacklist, the 12th outing for private eye V. I. Warshawski, is rife with weighty themes, including terrorism, McCarthyism, and the never-ending fight to preserve the First Amendment; but the author balances out the heaviness with plenty of her trademark dark humor, one-line zingers, intense action, and thrills galore.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

V. I. "Vic" Warshawski agrees to investigate the story of a 90-year-old female nursing home resident who claims to have seen lights in a nearby abandoned mansion. In no time, Vic has stumbled across the corpse of a reporter who was hunting down a reclusive dancer blacklisted in the Red Scare of the 1950s. Each event combines with others to reveal a complex cover-up involving the FBI and terrorists at large.

Blacklist, a powerful entry in Paretsky's popular series, gives Vic a chance to show her tender, vulnerable side, as the plucky P.I. wrestles to overcome her feelings of anxiety and powerlessness. Offering up a solid mixture of excitement and thought-provoking issues, the author pulls us into a story that combines the best elements of political intrigue with a classy, first-rate mystery.
