Julia,
There is a feature in Kurzweil called poor page recognition . You get there with alt followed by o o and then p. It shows any pages that are below your confidence level. It can be set to show the pages in order and then will take you to that page with a press of the return. You can then find the page in the book by counting pages, as I do, or asking a sighted person. You can then rescan the page and return to the program. I use it if I am scanning in grayscale, since recognition takes a while. If not in grayscale I use the rescan as you go method.

Hi, so how does that feature work? I know that if I do a batch scan and then hear a couple of pages come out sub-par I still have no clue which pages they are because it just says the confidence of this page is, how do I find out which page it's referring to?

Absolutely! And for the mostly scanners there's the great feature of the confidence level indicator. It lets me know in real time, as I'm scanning, how well things are going. If I don't hear anything, I know my scan is coming out fine. As Monica pointed out, though, the factory default setting of 95% is way too low. But once you turn it up to 98% or above, you will know that you're getting a quality scan if you don't hear the confidence numbers after recognition.

I was a validator with bookshare when version 8 of k1000 came out. Version 8 was the first version to include the "optimize " feature.

The quality of scans submitted to bookshare immediately improved by leaps and bounds.

There are times when a user may want to tweak the settings the optimize feature provides. Having said that, it is a truly useful feature which was developed from feedback of bookshare submitters.

The optimize feature along with the rank spelling feature truly are wonderful features of K1000.
