Hmmm, well I'm not planning to get rid of Kurzweil anytime soon since its what I use now. After I installed one of the windows updates my openbook eight demo wouldn't work. I hope that isn't the case or I'll be bugging my techies. Or maybe I'll just leave it alone as long as it reads stuff and still use Kurzweil to scan.

Newer isn't always better, which should come as no surprise, but, more importantly, the issue is also which has the better tools to help in accuracy improvement. I have no idea what OB8 will have, just include that in your decisionmaking. Chela is right. Kurzweil can automatically detect text on various backgrounds now. That's a nice improvement in the FineReader engine in Kurzweil 11. Kurzweil is steadily improving their basic scanning features, and I really like their forms recognition feature. So I don't think you'll gain anything by rolling back to an earlier version. Having said that, we have some volunteers producing beautiful scans using Kurzweil 8 and 9. So if you don't have Kurzweil 11, there are people making older software work very nicely.
