Brian, If the books you're speaking of are the ones you sent to Bookshare on CD oh so many moons ago, they're beginning to trickle up! I finally found a volunteer who had the time, energy and willpower to deal with your amazing collection. If you don't want to mess with that, please still submit the books. When I validate books, I sometimes specifically look for text files, so I can download them onto my Braille Lite. I much prefer to edit in braille, rather than speech, and the Braille Lite doesn't read RTF files. They are in TXT format because I scanned them and then converted them in order to download them to my Road Runner device more easily, which only accepted text files. Then my computer crashed, so I lost the original scans, but I had the text files on zip disks. This collection of mine is rather unique, containing hundreds of history monographys, novels, travel books, and a variety of titles that are not on bookshare. As a Ph.D history student I read constantly, and have a pretty massive collection. So, do we want to toss out this resource because they are in text files? I have the books, so it is no skin off my nose, but what about everyone else? Let me start by saying that I need to say something but I'm a bit frustrated so please don't think me rude. The fact of the matter is that bookshare does indeed allow text format submissions. Not all txt formatted files have the page breaks missing... I have validated a few that did have page breaks. If you have a problem validating txt files, don't do it. It's very simple. Until bookshare states that txt files will no longer be accepted, we as validators need to deal with it. I don't think it's right to come down on submitters for using the txt format. I'm not a submitter so I don't know why people use this format, but they must have a reason. We should be grateful that these submitters are taking the time to bother scanning books for us to read. Personally, I appreciate the time they take to submit... even if some of them are using txt format. Lisa
