Hello. I am Maria Georgakarakou and I am new to our list as you can see. I have been a Bookshare member for a couple of years but I just started scanning. So I have a lot of stupid questions. Maybe one of you can answer some of them.
I scanned three books. One was on a txt file and I haven't received any note of rejection. Do we ever know if a book we scanned was rejected? Mr. Turner did tell me as soon as I sent it that as a text file it had no page markers. However I later saw the title among those waiting for aproval. Must i wait for a note or should I go ahead and scan the thing again and OCR it as an RTF? The title in question is Smyrna 1922.
The other two books I scanned are RTF files and as I had more hopes as to their survival, I validated them myself. However, I have not heard about them in over a month. Does that mean they are dead? One is "The Viewer as Poet" and the other is "Single Mothers by Choice."
I don't want to scan anything else before I am sure I am doing this right and the books will not be rejected. But I am new to this and I guess I am still learning...
I am using ABBYY fine reader as an OCR program and I am very happy with it because it can read multiple languages in the same text and has no problem even with Latin.
