Good Idea! I will release this psychology book. Someone validate please.
I found two look like content page, page 8 and 37 according to JAWS.
This is a huge book, more than 600 pages. I appreciate submitter's patience. Also, thanks your opinions.
I like to read this book anyway.

Hello Tomoko,

I am pasting the relevant section from the volunteer manual below for
guidance. The questions you need to ask are:

1. are there page breaks in the book?

2. do these page breaks conform to the actual printed pages.

In your case, unless you can determine that the page breaks conform to the
actual page boundaries, I would recommend that you release the book and let
a sighted volunteer take the book so that comparison can be done. You, of
course, do have the choice of adding page numbers. This could be a bit dicy
if the page breaks do not actually conform to the print page
break/boundaries.

Here is the relevant manual section:

3.1.7 Books Must Contain Page Breaks
Bookshare.org has made it a matter of policy to no longer accept books
without page breaks. It is part of Bookshare's on-going effort to raise the
quality of books in the collection.

New books should not only contain page breaks but should be paginated the
same as the scanned books. This is necessary in order to effectively
facilitate reader discussions, searches, and indexing.

However, Bookshare.org does not wish for a book to be rejected if a book is
only missing a few page breaks. As a guideline, a book must have at least
90% of its page breaks and they should be in the correct places. In other
words, if there are problems with more than approximately 10% of a book's
page breaks, and the validator is unable to fix the problems, then the book
should be recommended for rejection.

Volunteers should be aware that all page breaks may be lost if the document
is converted to the TXT file format. Since the loss of page breaks during
validation will result in the book being returned to the Step 1 page to be
revalidated, it is NOT recommended that volunteers convert books to TXT when
working on books.

Hi Tomoko,

You are correct that page numbers would be
helpful. However, Bookshare does not require page numbers. Only
page breaks are required. My opinion is that if the scan is good,
and worth cleaning up, though page numbers are not present, I would
definitely not reject the book. Because it is a text book, and text
books are difficult to scan, rejecting the book would be hasty if
that rejection is only due to a lack of page numbers.

I personally do not think that you are too perfectionistic. You are
being careful, and thoughtful. Those are absolutely precious
qualities. And I am thrilled to have you volunteering with us.

Peace,
Mayrie
