I can send it to you. I send it to Pavi to post as a wiki. I know she's been
away but I don't know if she'll keep posting it when she gets back. Hopefully
she will. I'm now sending it as an attachement  to the volunteer email list,
but I'm willing to sewnd it to any indiviual who wants it.

The wiki page of books being scanned that I get to says last updated Aug 16
and seems to be repeated within the document. Where do I go to get the
current list?

Hi Liz,

If you open the list in microsoft word, you can use the find command
to search for your name.  Oh, dang, not as easy as it sounds, your name is
much more common than mine!  Well, You can search on the phrase "scanned by
liz". That ought to be workable.

Just a suggestion.

However, keep in mind there are many volunteers who are not on this list. I
used to only join in once in a while, then quit again. It's something I keep
reminding Pavi, and once Jim F after Gustavo suddenly died. Just posting an
announcement on the two email lists doesn't reach everyone. Just something
to keep in mind...

I still have 4 volunteer books I'm so slowly  proofing. (3 others got picked
up by Digital Divide before got to them, great!) I'll go look at the list if
there's a quick way for me to check...

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Accuracy of books being scanned list - question
for all volunteers scanning

Cindy, I think the names of who is scanning each book are actually very
important. I didn't realize it until I started helping remove the duplicates
from this list. smile.

The major reason why I want to know who said they are going to scan a book
is this:  if a volunteer quits, we won't ever know that the books that they
said they were going to scan are no longer going to get scanned.  Also,
people change their mind or just don't remember that they said they were
going to scan something, and don't let Cindy know.  Also, there have been
software glitches that I'm pretty sure scrambled information, so that for
example a title supposedly being scanned by one person is really getting
scanned by another

I'm thinking here about both perspectives that have been posted today on the
books being scanned lists, that on the one hand, it has some errors that are
fixable or on the other hand that it has some serious problems that might
mean it is more work to correct it than it is to start over.

I really believe that the only way to know how accurate or inaccurate the
books being scanned list is currently is to ask the volunteers who scan to
look at this list to see if they think the information regarding titles they
intend to scan is accurate as of now.  Based on that, we'll know better if
there are just a few things to get fixed or if it would be as much work to
fix the errors they're reporting as it is to maybe build something new, or
start over (as horrendous as that may be!). smile.

So, scanners, have any of you other than the one's who have posted
corrections looked at the list?  If not, would you please?
Is it accurate regarding what you're scanning or intending to scan? If
not, what's wrong (for example, you decided not to scan the book, you never
intended to scan a book and have no idea why you're listed as scanning it,
you already scanned the book, etc.)? If the information pertaining to you
and the titles you intend to scan is accurate, could you post that too? That
way we'll know both the good and the bad! smile.
