I am using a braille display and a braillenote. They show up as ed sign followed by the letter p. They are hard returns of the type which normally come only at the end of paragraphs. Were you to go over them with a cursor and speech synthesizer in say, Microsoft Word, they would ding. They appear at the ends of lines in .txt files.

They force a printer (braille or inkprint) to go down a line. They used to be called carridge returns on a typewriter.
They are less apparent when using speech than when using a braille display. Good questions.

This will sound stupid, but can you explain what you mean by line feeds?
And if you're using speech to read how do you know if they're there?

I have no idea. How do so many books get rated as excellent and prove not to be. I do not excellent takes into account extra hard returns which do not appear at the ends of sentences but are put in at ends of lines. Makes stuff messy for folks who download but do not validate and makes bookshare come across as creating shoddy stuff.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who uses their time and talent to scan and prepare the books for us to read.

My question is if there is such a problem with the book scan, then how did it get to the actual reading list with such an excellent rating?

Someone with the print copy may want to figure out how to fix up this book. What a shame it has so many linefeeds and errors and was scanned so recently too!!!
