hi listers,
here are my ideas for the march talk :
Title : Demo of use of various OS facilities
segregations: filesys,IPC (shm,msgQ,socks),mem,threads
Outline : We implement an image processing app as our demo...
talk 1 : We come up with our own siff (simple image file format), or use
the .pgm (recommended)
: We develop simple display functions
: In the first talk, we demo file handling, and essentially just
read in some images and display them.
talk 2 : We demo mem management, by way of some simple processing of our
images... This can even stretch over 2 talks
(efence,valgrind..)
talk 3 : We demo IPC techniques, basically shm and msgQ
talk 4 : We demo socks.
talk 5 : we develop a simple multithreaded app.
Each talk will be split into a prolouge, which will give a brief intro to
the topic at hand, a main demo section, and an epilouge for gotchas and
tips. QAs are throughout the talk time...
Other ideas: mandatorily ask a bittian to prepare and present a 30 min
talk on a related topic... (from talk 2), hold a small quiz every session
(Pavan)

1. The pc in the new seminar hall is a win only pc, so if someone has
access to a linux laptop....
2. Publicity... Dips for the website and Rashmi for the incollege ads..
3. We also need some insiders helping us on this, anyone know any juniors
who might be interested??
