[birdky] western Henderson Co. sloughs

Got up & out early but it didn't help beat the heat & humidity.
Another HHH day: Hazy, Hot, & Humid.

Anyway I did a tour of various sloughs is in western Henderson Co. this morning. I hit the Horseshoe Road slough as well as extensions of it by driving some farm tracks between corn fields. Also hit Powell's Lake/Grassy Pond sloughs (part of the Sloughs WMA). Then on to the I guess what I'll call Pond Creek slough (also part of Sloughs WMA).

Highlights:

Com. Moorhen 1 - at Pond Creek slough (where I have seen others the past few years)
Great Egrets 38 - at various sloughs (they actually outnumbered the Great Blue Herons)
Green Heron 1
Mallard family
Wood duck family
Hooded Merganser family

Observation/Question:

When Great Blue Herons are flushed they very often let loose with their "brrraaakkk" call. But when I have flushed Great Egrets locally they are silent. But when I have birded in Florida and flushed Great Egrets they let out a hoarse call. What's the difference in behavior?

(When I say flushed I don't mean I am intentionally making they fly, it just happens that way. I don't mean to imply that I am harassing the birds to get them to panic.)
