Sounds like the entrance hole in the nest box is too big. You can eliminate the starling threat with a 1.5-inch diameter entrance hole. A small piece of wood with a 1.5-inch hole drilled in it can be nailed over the existing hole. I live in Berea. I could put the bird back, but I would have to stand outside all day to keep the starlings away, and when I leave for work in the morning the same thing will happen again. I also thought about covering the house until tomorrow and then when I get home putting the baby back and seeing if the parents will come back. ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
