[birdky] Re: pishing

Oh be serious.

It's one thing to play a tape of an owl for thirty minutes to see some endangered species come out of its nest. Yes, that's wrong.

It's another thing to pish for thirty seconds to see some forlorn Carolina Wren or Chickadee come out of the underbrush to see what's up.

Who among us can pish for thirty minutes straight without keeling over?

You should see the grackles/RWBB/Starlings clucking for thirty minutes when a red-tail/kestrel/sharpie lands in a tree near their nests. They gladly cluck their little hearts out for fifteen minutes until the big bad predator flies away and at least one or two is happy to chase the interloper into the sky after that. It doesn't seem that a little pishing would bother them.

If you like to pish, then I say PISH-AWAY.

For those who wonder: the pishing sound is similar to an alarm call made by various songbirds. They usually make this sound when a predator is around and they mob the predator. So when you pish the birds are coming out to see the predator, who isn't there, but they are happy to think it's you.
