[birdky] pine mt., harlan co., warblers

On May 13, 2004, I birded Pine Mountain, Harlan Co.,
between Rts. 421 and 2010 with James D. Kiser and
several other persons. We covered this 8.9-mile
stretch of the mountain, which ranges in elevation
from 2400-2600 feet in this section, from 0745-1300
EDT. The main attraction of the trip was the warbler
fauna. We counted 39 Chestnut-sided Warblers and
27 Cerulean Warblers among 15 or so species. We also
heard a calling Rose-breasted Grosbeak, keeping alive
the faint hope that this species might be a breeder on
Pine Mountain, although the bird we encountered may
have been a migrant.
