I paid a visit to the Red-tailed Hawk nest this morning. Both youngsters were
in the branches above, rather than in the nest. Couldn't get them both in field
of view for a sibling group shot, but got one mediocre picture of each of them.
A few minutes after my arrival one of them decided to fly away. About a minute
later the other one also flew, so that ends my weekly hawk nest visits.
The Screech Owl was not in the little Beech tree last week or today. It's my
conjecture that it liked that little Beech tree because the nearby hawk nest
gave it early warning of intruders by way of mama hawk's screams. If that's
true there is no longer any special draw for the little Beech, so if a certain
fellow Logan Countian is putting off posting my Screech Owl picture thinking I
am going to send him a better one he may have a long wait.
Chickadee had a fat grub for its babies inside the barn lot fence post.
Chickadees usually never hold still for a moment, but this one perched in one
spot for some time waiting for me to leave before taking the grub to its nest.
A fair photo-op except for being back lit.
