Fellow birders:
Gold Finches and many other species are conspicuous for their absence here
on the Morgan/Magoffin county line in eastern Kentucky. Magoffin county
has become infamous for our loss of county water supply since our primary
source, the Licking River, is dry in many locations.
We had severe damage from locusts earlier this year too. However, there
seems to be an abundance of weed seeds and fruit available.
We have lived here for 8 years and about 10 days ago, our 350' well went
dry. While there are some old mine ponds not far from us, there is no
water in the creeks or drains nor standing water anywhere near our home
and feeders.
WB nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, pileated, downies and doves round out
the lean birding list here at this time.
