One thing I have found over the years is occasionally a batch of thistle
seed will get old and the goldfinches stop coming. Whenever I notice a
decrease
in finches, I just load the thistle feeder with a new batch of seed and dump
the old thistle in with my oil sunflower seed. The finches always
miraculously reappear, and as a added bonus, the sparrows seem to enjoy the
old thistle
that falls to the ground from my hanging sunflower seed feeder.

Where are the finches? Our feeder has been full of Thistle seed for about two
weeks and no sign of either goldfinches or house finches.
