[birdky] eastern Kentucky birding

Sometimes you just have to head east.
N. SAW-WHET OWL. 9:45 pm Feb 28. (Thanks to Roseanna.) Little Lick, road
816B just before reaching the campground / horse camp. The bird gave 4 loud
skeee-eee calls, and then turned into the Energizer bunny with a
tu-tu-tu-tu... that kept going and going and... Even though I only found
the one after 3 hours of trying, I was very happy. I don't care what the
subtraction says: the difference between zero and one bird is much greater
than the difference between one and two birds.

PINE SISKIN. 8 a.m. At least a dozen mixed in with a very large flock of
Am. goldfinch. The siskin were noisily working on the hemlocks at the edge
of the Pine Mountain State Resort Park Lodge parking lot.

RUFFED GROUSE. Pine Mtn. SRP. About 8:30 a.m. one flushed for an
unsatisfying look near the Fern Garden on the Fern Garden Trail. Luckily,
about 10 a.m. I saw another calmly feeding or gathering grit on the side of
the road (190?) from the Lodge toward Chained Rock.

AM. WOODCOCK. Red River Gorge, near Angel Windows parking lot. At least
two displaying around 7 tonight.
