Mike,
I live in Junction City and we had a pair of Bluebirds hagning around a box in
our back yard for the longest time. They both were going in and out of the box
for about three weeks. One day they just up and left. No other bird is
currently nesting in the box. I don't know if the kids playing in the yard
might have spooked them off or what. I sure hope they come back though.
Also while living in PA we had a bluebird nest in a box just off our porch in
town. It was just for one season then it never came back.
Take care,
Ed Richards

My neighbor in Danville, who lives smack dab in the middle of a large
subdivision, has bluebirds nesting in a box in his back yard. Last year
tree swallows nested in the same box. My question: isn't it somewhat
rare for bluebirds to come into a subdivision to nest? All of our yards
have lots of trees and shrubs but not a whole lot of open space. I see
bluebirds fairly often along the road that separates our subdivision
from the adjacent cattle farm, but have never seen them nest inside the
subdivision before.
Any thoughts about "townie" bluebirds. Is this more common than I
thought?
P.S. I'm happy to report that three bluebirds successfully fledged last
week in one of my boxes on some rural land in Boyle County that I own.
