John, if you are in No. Ky. the Aurora Ferry Rd sloughs are a
possiblity. The road just past them (Rt 230)can be good for grassland
birds. The road dead-ends and a left at Rt. 18 will take you to Middle
Creek Rd (right turn). This will lead you to Boone Cliffs which is
great woodland birding and a guaranteed (?) Worm-eating Warbler. Having
said all of this, you are next door to the best birding place in the
world. Don't make a special trip down here. Once in a while I plan a
birding morning (usually in June) around that area. Actually, if you
ever do it you might add this: When you get off I-275 instead of
turning right at the off-ramp you can also turn left which will lead to
a dead end road which can be very, very good. Good edge territory:
creek, field, forest. Super quick drive through. It seems like there
should be Whip-poor-wills altho' I have never found them there. For
some reason I call this Church-camp Rd. I think it is actually Garrett
Rd or something like that.
I'm coming up to Muscatatuck this Sat. I think. Would you please
arrange for a sunny, calm day please? No rain? No wind?
Stay well and say hello to your wife for me please.
Thank you
Darlena
