[birdky] bird rpt: April 30

A walk around the visitor center clearing and picnic area at Mammoth Cave
produced some good birds, despite the gloomy weather.
turkeys; pileated, downy, red-bellied woodpeckers; flickers; bluebirds; good
numbers of singing wood thrushes; great crested flycatcher, phoebe;
gnatcatchers; FOS baltimore oriole; red-eyed and yellow-throated vireos;
warblers included yellow-rumped, palm, worm-eating, tennessee, black and white,
parula, yellow-throated, common yellowthroat, la waterthrush, black-throated
green, kentucky, and ovenbird.
for anyone planning a trip, be advised that there is some noisy road building
going on behind the "little hercules" railroad engine. the entire area is full
of heavy equipment, cement trucks, etc.
i had my best luck today over in the picnic area.
