Tuesday and Wednesday were an interesting two days of backyard birds. Two very late birds were present -- a purple finch and a white throated sparrow. Two first of season birds -- A gray catbird (eating suet/dried fruit from a suet cake) and a male indigo bunting on a tube feeder. Others seen -- Rufous-sided towhee, mourning doves, house finches (for the first time this year, two with conjunctivitis), common grackles, brown-headed cowbirds, cardinals, robins, tufted titmouses, Carolina chickadee, blue jays, red-winged blackbird, red-bellied woodpeckers, goldfinches, and house sparrows. This is the first year in at least 20, that I have had house sparrows at the feeders (and feeding young). Cardinals, robins and red-bellied woodpeckers nesting in backyard area.
