[birdky] an oddity about Carolina wrens

A friend of mine was telling me that recently she's been enjoying seeing
them night roost up to six at a time in a gourd on her porch. She says
that at dusk they go in one at a time and the gourd shakes for awhile
until they all get comfortable and settled in... Survival tactics...

Carolina wrens love cavities and I often find that one or two have
overnighted in my garage. The odd thing is that they have difficulty
finding their way out, even though I leave the double door open for
them. They seem to want to fly above the door, once it is parallel to
the ceiling, and it takes them a surprising amount of time before they
figure out a way to get out.

Subject: [birdky] Carolina Wren in my garage

I found a Carolina Wren huddled on the floor of my garage this evening.
It evidently had been sleeping. After I picked it up and cleaned off the
cobwebs (my garage is not very tidy), it flew around a bit before
settling atop some boxes to sleep. It appears to fly and walk fine. I
opted for keeping it in the garage overnight. I am worried, though,
about it weakening without any food. I know that they eat juicy bugs but
I don't have any of those on hand...any suggestions?

In addition to the water, I've left a buffet of fresh cranberries, bacon
fat and bread. Too bad I don't have a downy woodpecker. Last time I
checked on it, it had moved from its spot so I'm not sure where he/she
is hiding now.
