[birdky] Wilson's Phalarope Nest and Transient Lakes Update

This morning at McElroy, I found a male Wilson's Phalarope incubating 3 eggs!
Up to 4 Wilson's Phalaropes have been present for the past week including 2
males and a female today. The female spent the morning loafing at the small
southernmost pool where she has been present for several days. The nesting of
this species in Kentucky attests to the unique habitat at McElroy.

The lake is gone and there are now only 2 small pools, one which may not have
lasted through the day. The soggy spring-fed field at the southern end is just
about dry also. Other birds of interest at McElroy this morning included:

Semipalmated Plover (~15)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (~150)
White-rumped Sandpiper (~10)
Dunlin (~10 including a bird with one eye)
Stilt Sandpiper (favoring an injured left leg)

At Chaney Lake this morning, a molting male Gadwall and a pair of Black-necked
Stilts were present along with a few Semiplovers and Semisandpipers.

Recent noteworthy observations at the Warren transient lakes include:

Surf Scoter (23 May last date/McElroy)
Greater Scaup (24 May last date/McElroy)
American Pipit (27 May last date/McElroy)

A visit to Morgan's Pond in Christian County this afternoon yielded the
following highlights:

Blue-winged Teal (3 broods)
Lesser Scaup
Ruddy Duck (5)
Pied-billed Grebe
SORA
American Coot
BLACK-NECKED STILT (at least 10 nests!)
LAUGHING GULL
Forster's Tern (4)
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD (male)

Frank Lyne and I visited 739 Pond in Logan County late this afternoon and
enjoyed a nice group of birds including:

Wood Duck w/brood
Mallard (4 broods)
Blue-winged Teal
Semipalmated Plover (15-20)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (120)
White-rumped Sandpiper (~5)
