[birdky] Wilson's Phalarope - Falls of the Ohio

At approximately 7:30 pm this evening, we located a Wilson's Phalarope at the Falls of the Ohio. It was seen directly across from the Interpretive Center in the pools nearest the wall. We tried to take photos but the light just didn't allow for any good shots. It was a non-breeding adult; the beak was needlelike, white throat, breast and belly, yellow legs, pale gray back and top of head. While it did not swim in circles, it swam erratically. It seen with two greater yellowlegs.

When we first got there, we spotted two dowitchers in the same general area. With the water as low as it was, we decided to check out Wave Rock and adjacent structures. Due to the fact that a peregrine falcon was perched nearby the creek entrance, not a shorebird was to be found. We did, however, find app. 12-14 blue-winged teal with the many mallards.

Other birds of interest were three nighthawks, one pectoral sandpiper and several distant peeps that were found just before dark.
