Highlights from a birding/insect photography trip to western Kentucky are 
listed below.

9-1-10
REELFOOT LONGPOINT UNIT/FULTON
Water in a couple of fields with a few common shorebirds including both 
yellowlegs, Least, Semipalmated and Pectoral Sandpipers.

OBION WMA/UPPER HICKMAN BOTTOMS/FULTON
Sedge Wren singing
Alder Flycatcher calling
Hap and Melis

MISSISSIPPI RIVER/CARLISLE CO
Northern Shoveler (3)
Western Willet (6)
Dowitcher species (3 distant flying down the river)
Caspian Tern (3)
Forster's Tern (3)
Least Tern (several scattered including juvs)
Black Tern (flock of 75+ including juvs and adults in all stages of molt 
hawking insects over the river)
Swallows (all species feeding low over the river given the heavy overcast and 
drizzle as far as the eye could see)

MITCHELL LAKE/BALLARD WMA
Semipalmated Plover
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper 
Least Sandpiper
Western Sandpiper
Baird's Sandpiper (7)
Pectoral Sandpiper
Buff-breasted Sandpiper
Least Tern

Most of the shorebirds were gorgeous juvs.  Fish Crows and Mississippi Kites 
present in good numbers along the river and in the bottoms.
