[birdky] Weekend observations

Mary and I caught up on our Kentucky year list in western Kentucky over the
weekend.

Some of the sightings:

3/25

Sloughs WMA west of Henderson:
* ducks, including lots of n. shovelers, blue-winged and green-winged teal,
and one redhead
* greater and lesser yellowlegs
* vesper sparrow
* tree swallows

Lake Pewee, Madisonville
* hundreds of tree swallows
* purple martins

Land Between the Lakes
* 2 Caspian terns at Kuttawa overlook
* 32 red-breasted mergansers seen from Eureka Campground, Lake Barkley

Jonathan Creek
* blue-gray gnatcatcher


3/26

Fulton County
* barn swallows near Hickman
* 132 Wilson's snipe at pond between Sassafras Ridge and Open Pond; a
similar number at Long Point
* at least 2 western meadowlarks at Open Pond
* pectoral sandpiper and fish crows, Long Point unit of Reelfoot.  
Lots of good shorebird habitat in the area.

Sinclair Unit of Peabody WMA
* sedge wren and possible LeConte's sparrow at S5
* 4 red-breasted mergansers, 2 horned grebes, and a common loon on lower ash
basin

Rockport-Paradise Road
* singing marsh wren
