[birdky] Waterfowels at Freeman Lake

Freeman lake has about 95% ice which gave birding easier with the water
close to the barn.Over a thousand Canada geese with a few Cackling. I Noticed
a
few Canada Geese were easily separated from the typical pale breasted race, A
few dark (noticeably on the chest) similar to the (Branta canadensis
occidentalis) from the northwest coast. Assuming these subpecies at Freeman
Lake are
(Branta canadensis interior).
Also there were a pair of male Northern Pintails, a pair of Green winged
Teals, several hundred Mallards, about fifty American Black Ducks mixed in
with
the Mallards and Geese. A small body of water surrounded by ice had one male
Canvasback, about seven Redheads, a dozen Ring necked Ducks a few of Hooded
Mergansers and a few Gadwalls. Other birds sighted were Pied-billed Grebes,
American Coots (not many) a dozen Ring billed Gulls resting on the ice,and a
Great Blue Heron. Rich
