YARD BIRDS (Nice increase throughout the day. The following species were
observed in addition to the resident White-throated, White-crowned, Song
Sparrows and juncos.)
AMERICAN TREE SPARROW (7 Only the second time I've recorded this species in my
yard in 15 years)
Chipping Sparrow (20+)
Savannah Sparrow
Fox Sparrow (2)
Field Sparrow
American Goldfinch (80-100)
MCELROY LAKE (Only ditch and puddles but the lake is beginning to form)
Mallards, Blacks, and Gadwall
WALTON POND
Northern Pintail (12)
PETROS POND
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK (adult female dark-morph)
Red-tailed Hawk (adult light-morph calurus type)
Wilson's Snipe (13)
WKU FARM
American Tree Sparrow
An adult light-morph calurus type redtail which has been present along McElwain
Road for several winters was observed today for the first time this winter. I
have not seen the light-morph Harlan's this winter which spent part of the past
seven on the WKU farm, nor have I seen his mate which I believe to be a calurus
intergrade.
Several hundred Horned Larks and approximately 150 Lapland Longspurs were
scattered in the Woodburn area and WKU farm.
