[birdky] Re: URGENT - anyone to help rescue injured red-tail hawk in Frankfort KY?

Ce Ci,
I would recommend that you contact Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky
(RROKI). Here is the Rescue Line for the organization: 502-491-1939 and
here is the URL: http://www.raptorrehab.org/ .

Eileen Wicker is the executive director, and she monitors the Bird-KY, but
she may not have seen your urgent request. She is a teacher and may be in
the classroom at this point in time.

Good luck!

Cordially,

Bob Peak

Henderson, KY

Subject: [birdky] URGENT - anyone to help rescue injured red-tail hawk in
Frankfort KY?

People, a gorgeous red-tail hawk was apprently hit by a car on Sunday and a
call came in to me w/Frankfort Audubon. Before I could get away from my
farm, the caller phoned to say the bird had hopped to a stump and "flown"
into a tree. For several days, I drove past the area (in town!) and was
happy the bird must have really survived and thrived.

Yesterday, saw the huge bird sitting on a rock wall and is carrying wing
low. Four women, three of whom have birding and/or rehab experience, tried
to capture the bird. It took us an hour to locate it, but it can hop/walk
and sort of fly like a chicken from low limbs to another and after further
consideration, we gave up.

But we don't want to give up! It's too gorgeous a bird to just let it die
alone and suffer the fates being on low ground. If anyone out there in the
KOS world may wish to help or has advice, please contact us in Frankfort.

Because I have to be away for most of the next two days, here are contacts
for discussion of the injured hawk (and they are copied this email).

Scott Hankla, Amy Covert, Lori Terry, Debbie Bramlage.

Thank you.
