[birdky] Transient Lakes 30 May 2002

A few shorebirds remain at the transient lakes near
Woodburn in Warren County today, the highlight being a
Short-billed Dowitcher of the nominate griseus race
which I photographed at Walton's Pond on hwy 240. This
subspecies is extremely rare in Kentucky, and this
also represents a new late spring date for the species
in the state.

Semipalmated Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers were
present there also as well as at McElroy. Blue-winged
Teal are also still frequenting the area bodies of
water.
