The highlights of this update are: Rufous Hummingbirds at 3 locations, = the continued presence of a Western Grebe on Lake Cumberland, a = Red-throated Loon in Hopkins County, and migrating waterfowl and other water birds. =20 Three (3) , possibly four (4) Rufous/Selasphorus Hummingbirds are now attending feeders in Kentucky. There is a banded positively identified female Rufous Hummingbird attending the feeder of Jackie Elmore in = Warren County, near Bowling Green. This bird was last reported on November = 18th. Birders wishing to see this bird should contact the Jackie Elmore at jackiebelmore@xxxxxxxxxxxx =20 A Selasphorus (probable Rufous) Hummingbird is visiting a feeder in = southern Jefferson County. This bird is believed to be an immature male. This = bird is at the home of Mac and Doris Smith at 4305 South Park Road. = Directions are as follows: Take the Gene Snyder Parkway east from Interstate 65 = to the Preston Highway exit. Go north on Preston Highway to the second = traffic light. You will see Manslick Road on the right and South Park Road on = the left. Turn left and follow this about =BC mile down a slight hill = watching the house number on the red panels in the yard. Visitors are asked to = knock on the door upon arrival. The most recent information on this = individual is for November 18th. =20 An third Selasphorus Hummingbird has been located in Taylorsville, = Spenser County. There are no further details on this bird. This bird was = reported on November 18th. =20 There has not been a recent update on the apparent Rufous Hummingbird = in Danville recently. =20 The Western Grebe previously reported at the end of Waitsboro Road on = Lake Cumberland was still present as of November 16th. Further details are = not available, but the bird is presumed to be in the same general area as before. =20 Waterfowl and other water birds are migrating through the state or = arriving for their winter stay. A roundup of water birds reported recently = includes: =20 * 14 species of water bird at Lake Cumberland including the Western = Grebe mentioned above, * 14 species of water bird at Lake Peewee near Madisonville including a Red-throated Loon. * Up to 18 species of water bird at Barren River Reservoir including a White-winged Scoter on November 19th and about 800 Common Loons on = November 16th, * 13 species of water bird in Northern Kentucky along the Ohio River including 2 Great Egrets at Pain Lick Creek in Gallatin County, * 14 species of water bird on Green River Reservoir including 4 Surf = Scoters and 4 Black Scoters on November 18th, and * 7 species of common water bird on the Ohio River at Louisville. =20 Sandhill Cranes are currently migrating through Kentucky when = conditions are favorable. Since the last update 4 locations have reported this = species including 8 in Trigg County, 28 in Barren County, 22 in Jefferson = County, and 22 in Adairville County. =20 A handful of migrant shorebirds remain in Kentucky. On November 16th a Least Sandpiper and a Dunlin were located at the Blood River Embayment = of Kentucky Lake in Calloway County. Over the past week, the remnant of McElroy Lake in Warren County has yielded up to 9 Dunlin, 4 Least Sandpipers, and an American Golden Plover. =20 Other birds of possible interest include a Pine Siskin in Barren = County, an American Tree Sparrow in Warren County, a Lincoln's Sparrow in Harrison County and Lapland Longspurs in Warren County =20 Thanks for calling the Kentucky Bird Line.
