[birdky] Sunday's Birding

Tom Durbin and I checked the Paradise ash basin in
Muhlenburgh County and the Ky/Barkley dams area on
Sunday, August 10. The most interesting find was an
adult Sora feeding at the ash basin. This is a week
earlier than I have recorded the species in fall in
Kentucky. Approximately 20 Least Sandpipers, a
Semipalmated Sandpiper, 10 Great Egrets, and 4
Black-crowned Night Herons were also present.

Ring-billed Gull numbers continue to build at the dams
with a few hundred present above Kentucky Dam. No
other gull species were observed. A Common Loon was
present above Kentucky Dam.

The Kuttawa egret/heron rookery on Barkley was active
with many adults making feeding trips. Along with the
Cattle Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons were
several Little Blue Herons and a few Snowy and Great
Egrets.

A single Lesser Yellowlegs was present at Petros Pond
in Warren County.
