[birdky] Spindletop and reservoirs

Made a brief birding trip in the Lexington area late this afternoon. At
Jacobsen Park, lots of coots, ring-neck ducks and blue-winged teal, three
double-crested cormorants, two pied-billed grebe and domestic ducks. Very
little at the old Lexington reservoir - just a ruddy duck along with the
usuals. One odd thing was a great blue heron swimming in the middle of the lake
- could've been caught by the gusty winds..

Spindletop was interesting. Didn't see the avocet, but did see a pectoral
sandpiper, several snipe, shovelers, blue-winged teal, three green-winged teal,
kingfisher and briefly an american pipit through the spotting scope. Birds in
the fields included horned larks, meadowlarks and lots of red-winged
blackbirds, brown-headed cowbirds, common grackle and starlings. I looked for
rusty or brewer's blackbirds (including near the lake) but didn't see any.
Sparrows included song, white-crowned and field.
