exploration, even though it is an insignificant addition to our energy =
supplies.
. He voted against raising corporate fuel efficiency =
standards, the single most effective way to reduce green house gasses =
and air pollution while protecting our energy supply.
. He voted in favor of giving Bush broad powers to override =
agricultural regulations.
. He voted to remove funding from three key agricultural =
conservation programs for fiscal year 2002: the Wetlands Reserve =
Program, Farmland Protection Program and the Wildlife Habitat Incentives =
Program.
. He voted to remove Endangered Species Act protections for =
Coho Salmon and lake fish in the Klamath Basin in California.
. He voted to allow oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico along =
Florida's west coast.
. He voted against a rule that prevents Bush from allowing the =
extraction of coal, oil and gas from National Monuments (protected =
land). Bush is advocating such action.
. Not only did he vote against campaign finance reform, he is =
the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit to overturn McCain-Feingold reforms. =20
Before all this he voted to:
. weaken citizen right to know on toxic waste releases,
. roll back clean water standards and drinking water =
guidelines,
. cut funding for EPA enforcement of environmental laws,
. prohibit enforcement of the Safe Drinking Water Act unless =
the Federal Government paid all the costs,
. allow states to reject Federal Safe drinking water =
standards,
. tie up all pollution regulations in misleading and =
inaccurate economic analysis,
. weaken wetlands protections,
. stop the listing of new endangered species and remove =
funding from endangered species programs,
. allow clear cutting of forests in the name of forest health,
. allow mining and logging in designated wilderness,
. sell off the country's natural resources to balance the =
budget,
. continue to give away federally owned minerals under the =
1872 Mining Law,
. prevent reasonable grazing reforms. =20
He has been a strong supporter in the safe disposal of the chemical =
weapons stored at the Bluegrass Army Depot.=20
He has given strong support to the cleanup of the Paducah Gaseous =
Diffusion Plant. He was responsible for legislation creating Kentucky's =
only Wildlife Refuge, setting aside 20,000 acres on the Clarks Fork =
River.=20
He has sponsored legislation to add Fern Lake to the Cumberland Gap =
National Historic Park, protecting Middlesborough's water supply.=20
And he sponsored bear protection to prevent the poaching of bears and =
stem the trade in bear parts.
