[birdky] Song sparrow nest

I've been watching a song sparrow make a nest in one of the flower planters on 
my deck. When I got home from work today, the nest was complete and there was 
one egg in it. When I checked back later, it looked like she'd covered the egg 
up a bit with the nesting material, but she is not sitting on the nest. I don't 
have a lot of experience with nesting birds, but thought that once they start 
to lay eggs they stick close to the nest. 
   
  Is it normal for her not to be sitting on the nest?
