This report will contain several days of birding, covering 7/13,
7/14, 7/16, 7/19 & 7/23.
The recent rains (actually like the heavens opened up and poured
rain) have effected the shorebird habitat considerably. While they
have added needed water to nearly dry sloughs, the additional water
has actually raised the level up into the weeds that surround most of
the shorebird areas.

Pond Creek Marsh has been baited for about 2 weeks. Now the net &
blind for banding have been set out.
Friday (7/21) we had a tremendous storm proceeding the cool front
that eventually gave us some relief from the HHH (Hazy, Hot & Humid)
weather. Straight line winds and lightening and rain pounded
Henderson Co. Trees down everywhere, flash flooding, power outages.
My wife & I spent Saturday cleaning up the yard from downed limbs and
trees. This afternoon (7/23) we finally got the power back.
On Friday as soon at the storm was over and the rain eased up the
birds were at the sunflower seeds and the Hummers back at the feeder.
We have lived here about 23 years. This is the worst storm I have
seen here. I love storms. But this one drove me in off the back
porch. Trees were bending around like crack-the-whip.
Yet the birds were immediately back and butterflies out Saturday like
nothing had happened.
